With Easter festivities just around the corner, it's time to indulge in some baking fun, not just for ourselves but for our furry companions, too! As an advocate for canine nutrition, I believe in treating our dogs with wholesome, homemade goodies that taste delicious and nourish their bodies. Benefits of Ingredients

Before we get to the recipe, let's explore the nutritional benefits of the ingredients we'll be using:

  • Carrots - a powerhouse of vitamins and fibre, making them an excellent addition to your dog's diet. They promote good vision, support immune function, and aid in digestion.
  • Eggs - serve as a binding agent in our biscuit recipe, ensuring that all ingredients come together seamlessly. They are a rich source of protein, essential for muscle development and overall health.
  • Peanut butter - provides healthy fats and protein, offering sustained energy for your furry friend.
  • Coconut oil - adding coconut oil to the mix not only enhances the texture of the biscuits but also provides a dose of healthy fats. Coconut oil supports skin health, improves coat condition, and may even aid in digestion.
  • Oat flour - serves as the gluten-free base for our biscuits, ensuring they are gentle on sensitive stomachs. Oats are rich in fibre, which helps regulate bowel movements and promote digestive health.

Recipe

Ingredients:

  • 1 cup shredded carrots (about 2 large carrots)
  • 1 egg
  • 1/4 cup peanut butter
  • 3 tablespoons coconut oil
  • 1 cup oat flour

Method:

  • Begin by preheating your oven to 180°C (350°F) and lining a baking sheet with parchment paper.
  • In a mixing bowl, combine the shredded carrots, egg, peanut butter, coconut oil, and oat flour. Mix until a dough forms, ensuring all ingredients are well incorporated.
  • On a lightly floured surface, roll out the dough to your desired thickness. You can use Easter-themed cookie cutters for added charm or simply cut out classic round biscuits using a mug.
  • Place the shaped biscuits onto the prepared baking sheet, ensuring they are evenly spaced.
  • Bake in the preheated oven for 15-20 minutes or until the biscuits are golden brown and firm to the touch.
  • Once baked, transfer the biscuits to a wire rack to cool completely before serving them to your furry friend.
